Nulanguage: Fashion meets Politics

Nu-Language created by Demira Hamilton also known to her friends & peers as Whiz.

She discovered her passion for art as a high school student in Baltimore, Maryland. Her vision is now coming to light as an adult through her brand of clothing Nu-Languange as a “Nu” way of expressing language and strength through fashion as a form of freedom of speech. Nu-language started off with their unique eye catching, handcrafted camo hat with the American Flag crossed out as a sign of our own melanin independence.  The hat recently went viral in various cities giving strength at a time where melanated people felt powerless to the new neglectful government changes affecting our people.

The message has traveled across the world. As well as recently appearing as an accessory of the day in Greece with the help of rapper and reality TV star Waka Flocka Flame and many more. Nu-language is growing daily and able showcasing items for Spring/Summer/Winter 2017. These items consist of but are not limited to jackets, shirts, and more for both children and adults. Nu-Language currently serves customers local and internationally via their website. Not only are you buying from a brand that makes a statement each hand is hand crafted by an amazing woman and entrepreneur.

Nu-Language will be celebrating their 1 Year Anniversary this July! Be sure to look for updates on their social media page and website

More than Your Average Modeling Agency Lead by More than Your Average Woman!

By: Mercedez McIntyre

Ashley Graham still in her early 30's has forged through to change the face of modeling creating MMW which stands for Models Most Wanted. She has granted us an honest peek into her life as a woman and entrepreneur. MMW was created by Ashley to have other aspiring models come together to produce fashion with modeling beyond the perceived expectations. Her mission is to make it clear that there are many opportunities in the fashion model world for all sizes and races. To make sure each woman is offered opportunity based on their professional delivery over shallow size guidelines. With a dream, hope and her own experience, MMW has been an active agency going on 5 years.

Ashley who has been modeling herself since she was a teen has worked with some of the top fashion directors and designers, including being in over 100 fashion shows! What better way to set the bar as a leader than to have personally critiqued experience. This is what sets MMW apart from most startup agencies.

With impeccable experience, we had to dig further to find out what aspects Ashley still strives to work on as an entrepreneur. Balancing time is a huge factor for all entrepreneurs; however, a few of us have the element that is a balance in progress including Ashley; which is how do you also balance working a 9 to 5. Ashley not only works a full-time but is also a hairstylist as well! Her ability to balance it all truly shows her passion. Not to mention balancing a team of ladies in her modeling agency! We know that cannot be easy!  Having a partner who is also an entrepreneur as well as her many family and friends has made the transition more of an ease which is a blessing that most of us are trying to find. Relationships seem to be the toughest battles for most entrepreneurs who hope to one day have both love and success simultaneously.

In Ashley's case, she has been blessed with a partner who happens to be a fashion designer! Talk about fate! To watch them work together is poetry in motion. Not only do they support each other but you can see from being around them they are truly friends as well.  It would seem as though being an entrepreneur was always her path but that is far from true. Ashley's personal passion gripped her at a time in life where she knew it was time to plant her own seeds instead of just cultivating the land for others.

Blessed with an absolutely beautiful spirit it is no wonder how year after year Ashley has pulled off some of the most amazing Fashion, shows most have ever seen by collaborating with other entrepreneurs. We have personally attended 4 of her shows leaving in awe every single time! In the next year, Ashley plans to branch out to other cities adding to the diversity of MMW. We are looking forward to seeing her growth continue. Feel free to also check out the MMW YouTube channel to check out their rehearsals and updates.

We couldn't end things without asking our main question. What advice would you give to future entrepreneurs?

"My advice is to be sure to never give up on your dream give it 100% percent. Never compromise your goals to make anyone else happy.  Do what is best for you, there is no wrong in your PLAN just do it!" – Ashley Graham

“When she knew God wanted to offer a bit more to life”: Owner of 5ive Spot Baltimore

This June will make 4 years that Stephanie Hannah has owned "The 5ive Spot" located in Randallstown, MD; 15 minutes outside of Baltimore City.

Owner Stephanie Hannah Credit-Distinct Eye Photography

Sitting across from Hannah she reminisced on her days working in corporate America putting in hard work and long hours only to leave every day knowing that there had to be more. For years she spent her evenings as a patron in the same establishment she owns today. Drawn to an atmosphere where people of all races and classes could come after work; leaving relaxed, well fed, and with great conversation. When the opportunity was presented for Stephanie to continue the tradition of the establishment being black owned she knew this was her chance to take a step out on faith and ambition. She spent her life working hard for others. Stephanie put pride and honor into being a great employee at businesses where she was in high leadership positions dealing with the stress of creating dreams for others. Lead by something stronger in her spirit to provide the exact atmosphere most desire...one of community, that has now become a pastime in a generation of technology.

Her next step was the part that is hardest for most entrepreneurs in any field, and that was to build a team aligned with the same fabric of work ethic. Walked in one of her first current manager Sherene Rene.  Sherene brought with her a background in marketing, sales, and banking experience. Not to mention she served in the US Army bringing leadership skills that you can easily see with her calm demeanor no matter the atmosphere.

Urban Freedom Magazine Creatives Brunch Credit: Distinct Eye Photography

Initially, the establishment was a neighborhood bar. Stephanie decided to transform it as well into a restaurant which was no easy task but well worth it if we do say so ourselves. Urban Freedom Magazine held a "Young, Gifted & Black Brunch" at The 5ive Spot this March with every patron remarking how amazing the food was. From Cajun Shrimp and Grits to Classic Southern Buttermilk Chicken and Waffles with a live Jazz Band as a special treat. It was truly our pleasure to see an owner be so hands on during the process. Like any process of elevation or anything new, there can be bumps in the road but Stephanie and Shelese handle themselves with a stature of strength as if you were a guest in their own home.

These two began working on The 5ive Spot at its most vulnerable state...the bottom. From learning how to work register systems for the first time, and advertising to letting people know they were open and ready. The 5ive Spot was far from walk in ready when Stephanie Hannah took over. In fact, Manger Shelese recalled walking into her interview seeing Stephanie with a construction face mask hard at work to get the venue prepared to be all she envisioned it to be. They had a look of joy just taking a moment to truly remember where they began. Often most entrepreneurs work so hard to the future it is rare we take the time to truly sit down and just thank God for where we are. Going down memory lane seemed to make both of their souls shine when asked how they see the future, simply because things have turned out better than they have both expected starting day one.

This lead to our next focus of how does one handle an establishment that can cater to a classic brunch to weekend nightlife. Maintaining a restaurant is a scale of its own to manage day to day along with adding dubbing as a late night venue. Especially in a city where many nightlife establishments have had to deal with violence a time or two. With a record of no violent crimes in her 4 years of ownership, I wondered what type of rules would have to be implemented. Stephanie stated she takes an amount of steps that most owners do not simply because her establishment means more to her than shallow thrill. First only hiring those who have been certified at bartending schools who have been trained to know when a person should receive a limit of alcohol as well as security personnel who does not allow in patrons who appear to already be under the influence. Friday & Saturday nights is when The 5ive Spot comes alive as a late-night venue. Unlike most Stephanie has a mandatory age of 25 & older for entry to add an extra step of crowd maturity.

Anytime it appears aggression is escalating Stephanie has a policy of stopping things in its tracks. She doesn't wish to be an owner wishing what she could have done if something happens but one that eliminates and prevents before anything negative does. Stephanie truly feels a business owner of any venue has to treat the space as if it is their home. You would not allow certain levels of disrespect to your home or guests and the same has to go for those who enter The 5ive Spot. Patrons must respect where they are as well as those around them. An old-school concept that seems to have relaxed in most places, much to the disadvantage of our community.

With that amount of focus, we asked Stephanie how she handles stress; in true leadership form Stephanie explained that The 5ive Spot is her dream, her baby, and life. She returns every day no matter what happens the day before ready simply because following her dream is a completely different form of therapy. If ever something doesn't go as planned she is determined to return and make sure she gets it on track for next time. Giving up or running is no form of stress relief for her; determination is how she sleeps peacefully at night.

Stephanie Hannah was a down to earth pleasure to be around. She exemplifies strength, accountability, and sense of ownership for not only her establishment but the community of Baltimore. Just recently she geared up with Cashland a local fashion store in Baltimore to provide track uniforms for Randallstown High school. During our interview, Stephanie also invited us to her back to school event she has been planning for this August. We will be sure to attend and update our readers on the journey of The 5ive Spot on our website, as well as information for our next Brunch!

What advice would you give up and coming entrepreneurs?

Owner Stephanie Hannah:

"Make sure you really want it. Make sure your experiences transitions into the dream you have. Always have a spirit of service aligning your work ethic and dreams. Learn from someone who is doing it. Ask questions and if people don't provide the feedback make sure you find your own information. Don't be cookie cutter. Start from scratch. Do not go into it for money alone because that will always fluctuate."

General Manager Shelene:

"Don't give up. Stick your feet in the ground and try harder when things get tough. Don't give up on your own dreams. Make peace with who you are because it can be lonely at the top. Understand that your family and friends may love you but you can't rely on them to always understand and support from your level of perspective because it is not them or their dream but yours. You can't be afraid of dark days."

Art Creatives: Jessi Jumanji

by Michelle Reed

Black people have always found a semblance of freedom in the forms of art we create. Whether it be dance, music, or illustration, a colorful aura exudes in the things that we do. We dominate our crafts and Jessi Jumanji is no different. Her vibrant schemes embody the variety in our culture.

How old are you?
26

Where are you from?
Raised in Memphis, TN and currently residing in Cincinnati, OH

Why the move?
I dropped out of college and took a personal break. Then my older sister accepted a new job here. I was looking for a change in scenery and decided to finish up school here. I will be graduating in May with a Bachelors in Visual Communication Design and a minor in Marketing

When did you start painting?
2009 during my sophomore year. I was going to school for Graphic Design. Basic drawing and painting were a part of the curriculum. Black and white drawings kind of bored me. So once I picked up the brush and discovered the magic of colors and different techniques, I knew it would be a part of my life forever.

Mos Def Artist Jessi Jumanji Pittsburgh, PA

When does your mental state or emotions come out in your work?
I am happiest when painting. Even when I'm not in the best mood, it helps take my mind to a different space, one not focused on negative energy. I can just create and have positive thoughts. I don't always paint to be in a good mood though. Sometimes painting helps me illustrate my emotions. It is much easier to cope with certain emotions when you create something that represents them on canvas, that way they no longer have to exist in your mind.

What do you do besides paint?
I have always had a love for music and poetry. When I'm not painting, I'm usually writing or making music. I love rap and hip-hop and I am working on a way to make both of those art forms intersect.

Who are your idols? (Artists or other)
My number one idol is Stevie Wonder. I think he is one of the most talented people the world will see for a very long time. He has inspired me in so many ways artistically and as a person. I was raised on it his music. When I learned to read I would read the lyric booklets in his old records. Every day I find a deeper meaning to his words.

What is your own favorite piece and why?
My favorite piece is a portrait of Erykah Badu I named "Yeyo Warrior." It’s my favorite song by her and I think it is one of my most captivating pieces.

Prince “Purple Rain” Artist Jessi Jumanji Pittsburgh, PA

Where do you expect art will take you?
I couldn't even tell you. Every day I am amazed at how my art has taken me to places I could never imagine. All I can do is create and wait on the universe to return the love.

Have you ever collaborated?
I usually work solo. But I definitely would love to do that very soon. I have worked with other artists to promote work individually but it would be nice to build a strong team of painters to represent the new school.

If you could give any message/ Quote to the black community what would it be?
Commit your life to the uplifting of your people. Get involved in the community and pour love and positivity into everything you do.

Rich Rocket Media

The birth of Rich Rocket Media came from a series of unfortunate events. Rich Rocket as he has artistically named himself,  he prayed and asked the universe to allow him to use his gifts to provide for himself financially.

Rich Rocket of Rich Rocket Meda at Urban Freedom Magazine Creative’s Photoshoot

Credit: Definitive Arts Photography

Just to create a start using what he already knew how to do, he made a flyer, that said "I make flyers" and posted it on social media. Within a few hours, he had a healthy amount of inquiries. From there on business has grown exponentially. He learned the hard lessons in those first months of growth. Not knowing proper business practices, allowing clients to take advantage of his time and talents was the instant downside. However, without those moments, he wouldn't have gained wisdom along with his true passion for fashion and design.

Creating "Vintage Thrivals" came from once again his need to allow creativity to influence his way of life. He has always wanted to wear clothes that speak to people. Clothes that expressively grabbed attention while subtly making a statement. Even though the majority of wholesalers do their best,  he has found it is hard for them to achieve "the look." Vintage Thrivals means the idea of Vintage ideals and aesthetics Thriving in present fashion. I mean who doesn't want to dress like a Huxtable in 2017? The brand encompasses original pieces, vintage pieces, and distressed pieces.Something for everyone and every side of you!

Life has taught him so many lessons but the one that has been most prominent is that he was born to create. He spent years working for others who had no passion which was never fulfilling for him.   Rocket stated, "When I put a brush to a garment, or put the finishing touches on a beautifully captured photo. The joy of being a full time "Artrepreneur" is only challenged by my need to create a comfortable, inviting and expressive space for my clientele. Making sure my clients are always satisfied, and wanting to return is most valuable."

Mel Payne DJ Lady Mysterious: The Dual Entrepreneur

By Shade Bowman

Being an Entrepreneur can be extremely overwhelming and time-consuming, but to manage not One, but TWO different careers all the while being a full-time student can be even more of a hand full. It takes a very determined and driven individual to single-handedly successfully balance the two.

DJ Lady Mysterious- Mel Payne Baltimore, MD

We had the opportunity to catch up with DJ & Barber Mel Payne to see what a typical day is like for her.

"A normal day for me starts usually between 4-6am. I think about the day that I have ahead of me, try not to take a Loc or 2 out because of it, and try to do things in order so that it will run as smooth as possible. I meditate, recite affirmations, answer emails, or any business text messages I missed the day before. I get to the barbershop between 9am-11am depending on my client's schedule. During any breaks I take, I am usually studying (Also in school full time in an Acceleration program for a BA in Music Business) or working on my weekly projects due for school. If my homework is completed, I am marketing both companies on social media, studying another barber cutting a client, or working on music for my next event that week while having lunch. If I have no DJ bookings that day, I am usually working at the barbershop until the last person is completed (between 7pm-9:30 pm). On my way home is when I make any personal calls, do something to relax me in any way to release any stress I dealt with, and finally usually in bed by midnight. I thank God for allowing me to get through my day, think about what I learned and where I need to improve on anything. Example, it is now 11:34 pm and I am just finishing up on homework after getting in at 10 pm from cutting clients. Lol!"

With such a busy schedule, it seems as though it'll be difficult not to double book working two demanding gigs, so we had to know..."How do you manage your busy schedule between DJing and being a Barber? Have you ever been double booked?" Using a daily planner or even a calendar app nowadays can be detrimental to an Entrepreneurs livelihood since we typically use technology for everything. But we were eager to hear how Mel balances her everyday schedule and her response was, "I honestly have no clue!!! It is not easy with managing, marketing, or working in both fields and doing everything by myself. I don’t book appointments to cut if I know I have to Dj. Now I double book DJing gigs a lot..lol But I have other Dj's in place to make sure things continue to run smoothly." Having others in place is truly a smart move for someone with Mel's schedule. Some entrepreneurs battle with themselves at times because they feel a team would be substantial in helping reach their goals, but when you're so used to getting things done, it just comes naturally. Since being a Barber and a DJ are on two totally different spectrum’s, we'd like to find out, "Which are you more passionate about? DJing or being a Barber?" Mel stated, "Music will forever be my 1st love. It completes me and allows me to communicate with anyone when I don’t feel like talking." Which makes perfect sense, music is a universal language and so many of us can relate to one another through song.

"If you could eternally be stuck in one year's music scene, which year would it be?" Mel Payne stated  "I would say the early 2000's. I was living the life with my dance crew. We would have practice days after college class so we would have different routines by the time we made it to the club that following Friday," is how she responded.

"What is your opinion regarding the difference between old school vinyl DJing and modern DJing?" Having experience in both areas Mel states, "It was really time-consuming carrying vinyl. I feel like it made you focus more on knowing how to put your music in order for when you go searching to play the next song and keeping the party going. Today allows the setup and breakdown process to be more convenient for the DJ along with the venue. I love it but I am grateful that I have been apart of both old school and modern." It's a plus when Entrepreneurs can adjust with the times to best benefit them with future endeavors.

"Where do you think the scene is headed 5 years from now? Will you still be DJing?" Sometimes we can't see pass the futures that we create in our minds, but not Mel. Focused on setting a standard she informs us that, "With the way, technology is going, I think the party scene will have a major change that will make a Dj work harder to solidify a weekly spot. And Yes, I will definitely still be DJing, just on a much bigger scale." Dj Lady Mysterious in this one for the long haul.

Being on the party scene, I'm sure there have been tons of unforgettable nights but..."As a DJ, What single night out has been the most memorable?" Pondering long and hard she replied, "If I have to pick just one of them, I would have to say when I opened up for R. Kelly down the Royal Farms arena." As an Entrepreneur, Mel is grateful for all of the opportunities that she's been given thus far. Opening up for a Legend like R.Kelly is one for the books! There's up and coming DJs that inspire to have life changing experiences as well, now "What advice would you give to aspiring DJs?" Like any true leader her response was to, "Create your own path, never stop building, growing, practicing, and learning the craft."

The transition from DJ to Barber may come as a bit of a surprise to readers who may not know Mel's story. So, of course, we had to ask, "When did you begin cutting hair? Did you always want to be a barber?" In response, Mel stated..."I started cutting hair Aug of last summer. I was laid off from my job in May and mentally dropped to an all time low. I stayed to myself for about a month and made the decision that I was going to take a step out on faith and see if I am doing the right thing. I have literally always been fascinated with the art of a haircut and said to myself… that’s what I want to do so let’s get to it!!!" The true definition of a dream chaser, nobody can make our dreams come alive like we can. Some Barbers have a certain style of cutting which makes clients wait in line to sit in their chair. Knowing that, we questioned, "As a Barber, what about your particular style made folks gravitate toward you?" Being relatively new to the game, she replies..."I think because of how I just broke out and dropped out of nowhere with a new career while being a female DJ that brings a lot of attention to me. This career by far has been the hardest for me because I am the rookie on the team looking become

great." So far we can tell that Mel is one who likes to perfect her crafts and we all know that saying, "The student always outshines the teacher". Some males may still be on the fence when it comes to allowing a female to cut their hair so we asked, "Have you ever been treated differently because you're a female barber?" Even though there have been female barbers for years now she informed us on her experiences by saying, "I get treated differently every day because I am a female that cuts hair. I have had men laugh in my face when the other barbers send someone back to me to get their haircut. Comments like “You’re a girl”, you can’t cut hair… “You’re a girl, don’t you belong in a salon? You have to have tough skin with both careers I work in because it is a Male dominated industry. So you have to ignore the hate but also use it to motivate you to be the best you." That's all we can do is be the best us, there's no competition when you want everyone to win. Whether we are booking for her an event or waiting in line to sit in her chair, we will eventually come in contact with Mel Payne.

New Generation + Big Pharmaceutical Drugs Infiltrating Young Homes

By: Ebony Satterfield

Credit- Visual Hunt

A drug is any substance (other than food) that, when inhaled, injected, smoked, consumed, absorbed, or dissolved into the body that causes a physiological change.

An addict is someone who devotes or surrenders themselves to something habitually or obsessively.

Addiction is the compulsive need for and use of a habit-forming substance.

Let's look at these words. Now break them down, digest them, and now apply them.  Is this you or someone you know?? We often get confused with what our perception tells us to be true and what reality actually is. That is what we like to call a gray area. In our community, we have too many "grey" areas, and drug addiction is the largest one.

Today's youth has to be the biggest growing drug ridden group since the 80's and it truly saddening how lost our future is. Given the circumstances of what we have evolved from, this seems to be one Pandora that will not escape our people. From Percocet to Xanax, to molly and ecstasy pills, just to name a few of today's favorites, is nothing short of being the modern-day heroine. To walk through the streets to see an addicted child calling and addicted adult an addict and be baffled how they do not see the similarities in their choices is a bothersome but dreadfully true reality. The rate of drug abuse in our community for youth and young adults is off the charts with the age range between 15-30 being the highest age group for overdosing, and the highest age group that are currently addicts. Believing that this is something we can change, I can see why the habit is starting at a younger age. What society promotes to our children, is eventually what OUR world becomes. With drug acceptance being so heavily populated by music artists. Our children and youth idolize this new fad. Which makes the war on revamping us as a people hard to do.

Credit- DailyMail.Uk

Every day, you walk the street or turn on the radio, or any streaming service for that matter, every popular rap artist song today exudes one of the following, sex, money, but most of all prescription drugs.  According to Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, African American teens represent 14.2% of the population that's currently abusing, or addicted to drugs. We have the most broken homes, and in the last 5-10 years, the birth rate of infants addicted to drugs has tripled. For every 1,000 babies born, 5.6 of them are born in withdrawal and addiction.

Personally, as a direct connection with this epidemic, I truly cannot offer answers to combat the current crisis with our people. We must find a way to be greater than shallow influences, and the knowledge of what is popular for our community is not what is always best for our community.  Science says people are born with addictive tendencies and behavioral traits. With what's happening not only in the world but most importantly our world, we have to be the deciding factors of change. We as a people must advocate change for our people. Between losing our sons and daughters to this disease called addiction, at some point we must reclaim, regroup and rebuild our brokenness. We are responsible for each other. Black Lives must matter at all times even when it's self-destructive.  Enough is enough!! Extend your hand to help, to love, to be accountable for what our community's future becomes.

3 Startup Companies Elevating the Face of Travel

3 Startup Companies Elevating the Face of Travel

According to The New York Times, the Mandala Research firm found that African-Americans spend $48 Billion a year on travel within the United States alone. These numbers are extremely high especially despite us not being considered a target audience in mainstream travel. Often when you see travel sites, commercials etc the experiences vary but the face of the travelers to reflect our melanin does not. “I thought about creating a community of people who looked like me, who loved to travel,” Travel Noire founder and CEO Zim Ugochukwu said. She wondered why brands weren't spending money in this influential market. At 27 years young she said the idea of the site came to her while she was living in India still a traveling minority. Travel Noire has succeeded in showing travelers how to fly to destinations abroad without sacrificing from bills and necessary expenses. The site also has a subscription service for $9 a month; users can actually seek advice through chat rooms with experienced travelers across the world.  They also give glitch airfare notification to allow travelers the ability to take advantage of airline computer glitches that happen fairly often. Travel Noire gives us, even more, quality with an amazing blog providing more insight with articles like "How to Quit your Job and travel abroad”. That article alone gave me tons of personal insight and wisdom to create a few personal lifestyle changes of plans.

Black Lives Matter...What about the Missing? #FindOurGirls

By: Tahirah Wiley

As of April 1st, 2017 34 Missing Girls in the Washington D.C. Area alone

#FindOurGirls- One of the current and viral hashtags amongst social media users. Recently, there have been several stories in regards to African American and Latina teenage girls that have gone missing this year. These stories have been the platform of information to keep up with the stories of the missing children in the Washington, DC area. As America watched these disheartening numbers seem to increase within social media many questions surfaced.

Many celebrities spoke out against the injustices with issues in America that associate with people of color, case, and point. Within days of the nationwide attention, more of the teenagers seemed to be found unharmed and immediately labeled “runaways”. Bernice King took to Twitter and stated “Sex trafficking/slavery is pervasive in the U.S. and world. Don’t label our #MissingDCgirls as runaways and not search. #FindOurGirls”.

Despite the social media frenzy enforcing the finding of 14 teenagers missing within a 24 hour period, it has been found to be pieces of what is referred to as “fake news”. D.C. Police stated there actually is not an increase in missing children of color nor are there 14 teenagers missing within 24 hours. However, there were still 22 open cases involving missing teens in Washington, D.C. as of March 22, and 13 open cases as of March 27.

Members of Congress are calling on the FBI to investigate a large number of Black and Latino missing children in our nation’s capital. 95 percent of the children who have gone missing in 2017 has been located. According to the Associated Press, over 500 D.C. children went missing in the first three months of 2017. Police spokeswoman Rachel Reid stated there hasn't necessarily been an increase in missing persons in the district. Instead, the public is simply noticing more because the police department is posting missing girls' photos on social media. These missing children aren’t all of sudden missing but simply having light shed upon it.

So this raises the question: Is the media being used for the families and children for children of color fairly? When the proportions of race and gender from the news coverage of five national television stations between 2005 and 2007 were compared to official missing children statistics, it was found that African American missing children and female missing children were significantly underrepresented in television news coverage. It is argued that such things as newsroom diversity, news operation routines, media ownership, and commercial motives of media contribute to the create bias.

Jesse Lee Peterson, of WND, wrote an article aptly titled “The Ugly Truth Behind Missing D.C. Black Girls.” Peterson brought another aspect looming behind the reasoning of numerous disappearances. A very uncomfortable, realistic, and simply sad truth within the lives of the children we are pushing to find.

Peterson stated “Newsflash: These young people don’t want to be reunited with their mothers. They ran away from home to escape unbearable living conditions. Angry, single, black mothers (and grandmothers) who don’t have any love are raising these kids. These women are often belligerent and violent toward the children. The kids are usually living in homes where the mother has a live-in boyfriend. Illicit drugs are prevalent. Sometimes the girls are made to work as prostitutes in sex-trafficking rings – even by members of their own families.”

The fact remains the missing children issue runs not only in DC but through all U.S. in cities like Chicago, Baltimore, Atlanta. Is this the reason for the missing children of color in these Urban areas across the country?

More importantly, with all the information on the table what do we do with it? Is it fair to assume each child is a runaway and hope they are better off? Do we take to the streets and find them regardless? The truth is that it’s up to each individual to access their own choices and figure out what part they want to play in our community.

There are a few ways to assist if you choose to keep up and assist with the missing children. Black and Missing Foundation is one of the groups actively assisting in finding the missing children. You can also follow the Metropolitan Police Department, in your city, on Twitter for updates.

American Prison Systems Reformation or Modern Slavery

The Super Predator: 13th
by Michelle A. Reed

"The objective reality is, virtually no one who is white understands the challenge of being black in America."

Is this true? Some circles argue that there is no such thing as white privilege. Especially on social media, where they have the most bravado; Blacks should just let go of slavery, Black Lives Matter protests create problems that don’t exist, or if black people cared about their culture there wouldn’t be so many in prison. Tomi Lahren was given a platform at The Blaze, where she proudly spoke on her disdain towards current black issues. Larhen has had nearly zero evidence to support her theories and accusations. While African American leaders have confirmed historic issues that match present systematic and social injustices.

Jesse Williams’s speech at the 2016 BET awards poetically presented facts on how we are criminalized, culturally appropriated, and brutalized by police. He talked about how the land of the free can be a cage for our people. White America backlashes offended, despite every single word being the truth. Beyoncé’s video for “Formation” had a child dancing in front of cops, and mothers that have lost children to police brutality. She even performed the song at the super bowl in Black Panther attire. White America took both, as her encouraging people to attack police, stating the “black panthers were a violent hate group.” Although the Black Panther’s origin was not one of violence, but for the protection of black communities that were being terrorized by white citizens. So what evidence is there that black activists are just being “radical?” Why are the prison systems around the United stated so heavily populated with African Americans?

A black leader in her own right, Ava Duvernay amazingly presents evidence on the imprisonment of the black community in her documentary “13th.” It includes the loopholes of the 13th Amendment that continues allowing blacks to be systemically hindered in a supremacist America by placing us behind bars.

The 13th amendment to the U.S. Constitution reads that "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction."

The "except as a punishment for a crime" portion of the Amendment, assisted with the mass incarcerations after the Civil War. Blacks were given unreasonable sentences for situations that could barely be considered crimes and used for labor to rebuild the economy. It allowed the government to once again enslave African Americans after it was supposedly abolished. If they weren’t in prison, blacks were publically hung, tortured, and their corpses displayed as spectacles. White people celebrated by posing in pictures with dead black fathers, children, and pregnant women. These inhumane actions were accepted and legal. And today, we are expected to believe that same government doesn’t have an agenda that supports the deterioration of the black community by imprisonment?

“So once you are convicted of a crime,
you are in essence a slave of the state.”

The 13th adds that the U.S. is only 5% of the world’s population of people while holding 25% of the world’s prison population. The statistics of black men that will be incarcerated in their life is 1 in 3. While the number of white men is 1 in 17. This statistic does not exist because white people don’t commit crimes, but because of the bias amount of people who are actually punished. Media and even Republican presidential candidates have always supported the idea of blacks as only super predators; criminals and rapists. But historically white people have been the most terroristic and violent of any culture. Even the original film for “Birth of a nation,” black men are depicted as criminals and a sexual threat to white women. But the rape ratio of white men on black women was significantly higher at the time of the film.

Candidates like Nixon, Reagan, and even Clinton used the public’s fear of black people before and/or after their elections to hold their statuses and popularity. Each candidate put processes in place that destroyed black communities by imprisoning black men for the same crimes being committed in white neighborhoods. Clintons 1994 Crime Bill existed so that he could somehow support the blatant but unspoken agenda of his predecessors. Current President Donald Trump has even spoken of "the good old days" when protestors would be knocked out, carried away on stretchers, or arrested.

White people fear our black leaders so much, that the government has gone out of its way to either murder or imprison the people who were simply fighting to be seen as human. Leaders like Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr., Rose Park, and legendary Angela Davis (who is featured in the documentary) were incarcerated and on the FBI’s “Most Wanted” list. The United States has had an open fear of black people and black progression. Fear is the sole reason why the mass imprisonment of blacks continues, and why crimes against blacks go predominantly with impunity. There are even laws and policies initiated by Republican owned corporations that have assisted in black incarceration. They profit millions off of the imprisonment that occurs when those laws are actually passed.

Any person black or white could benefit from the information presented in this documentary. It features exclusive interviews with white and black politicians, lawyers, authors, teachers, and activists. It displays the correlation of events leading up to a number of blacks in prison with the corporations and political parties that benefit from black confinement. Ava Duvernay provided a unique platform for people to present not theories or accusations, but truths about how black men, women, and children ended up in the system. The plan is mainly to keep the prison systems packed so that Republicans remain popular, prison corporations make money, and so that perspective on the black community continues to be negative. This documentary is the sight to the people who are blind to black issues in America.

Melanin Season Mind, Body, & Soul Preparation

By: Melanin Reigns

What are you going to do when everything changes and nothing is what you thought it was?

Are you going to answer the call to embrace your authentic spirit or are you going to refuse your God self?

Either way, the choice is yours.

We must shift our minds from placing blame on others for the problems we face, to seeing every situation as a positive addition to our journey.

Everyone you meet is a checkpoint for your personal evolution and the expansion of collective consciousness.

When your mind is conflicted it influences an illusionary detachment from the spiritual body because you are sending signals that you do not trust yourself.

Everything is a programming.

From the food you eat, to the things you hear, see, smell etc.

How you nourish your body reflects a level of self respect and value.

Eating foods that assist your enzymes in efficiency is vital to a healthy lifestyle and longevity.

You can be versatile in your diet by remembering to balance your wants with your needs.

Credit- Distinct Eye Photography

What nutrients are you lacking, how can you supply them before they become a physical issue?

We must be mindful that we are to eat to live, not live to eat in order to keep our physical being in optimum shape to thrive.

"Pack light"

What drives you?

The evolution of spirit requires us to do more than just survive. We've embarked upon an innovative phase of the human experience that allows us to transform and thrive at a rapid rate. The fuel behind your spirits evolution is your passion. Whatever gift you hold is imperative to inner achievement of your light also known as "Christ consciousness". It is time you shed the skin of what society told you, you should be in order to fully embrace who you are.  Do not be afraid of failure, all negative energies (ego, doubt, insecurities, fear etc.) are designed to keep you boxed in. Realize your full potential and honor your soul's calling. Refrain from denying yourself the true freedom you deserve.

Let your mind protect your heart on the journey, but do not let mental afflictions stand in your way.

Dig deep to find those childhood scars that plague you, find them and release them from healing. Analyze where you draw your strength from and amplify your connection to source.

Stand in your power in order to receive abundance. Allow your holy trinity (mind, body and soul) to align divinely so the ascension process is effortless.

It is time to do away with animalistic and impulsive behaviors. Discipline yourself to always do what adheres to your highest good. Trust your intuition and be mindful that you have the power to access 100,000 plus years of collective consciousness in order to transmute it into current elevation. Anything passed down through our DNA must be activated.

Ask yourself "what is my purpose in life and am I ready to evolve in it?"

We are always responding to vibrations, utilizing the positive vibes are easy but do you know how to transmute the negative ones?
